BRAIN - Disseminated sclerosis

Description
The brain has been somewhat distorted during fixation. The cut surface shows a number of soft grey areas in the white matter scattered irregularly throughout. In the lower section one such area can be seen close to the lateral ventricle.
History
This woman was admitted at the age of 50 with a 6 week history of aphasia and inability to move the left arm; she had had difficulty in moving her right arm for 2 years. Autopsy showed extensive lesions in the mid-brain, pons and in the cord, as well as in the cerebral hemispheres.
